Soup Joumou is a rich Haitian Soup traditional enjoyed on January 1st to commemorate Haitian Independence Day. Enslaved Haitians were forbidden from eating this soup so in celebration of the country’s liberation, Haitians all over the globe enjoy the soup as a symbol of the nation’s victory.
